2009 – taking no chances
:: :: Leaning out of my bedroom window watching the spectacular fireworks display that kicked off 2009, little did I suspect those celebratory explosions were ushering in a blowout to greet my New Year. In the meltdown and ruination mere hours later, the very idea of making a New Year wish would have been the height of absurdity.
Call me silly or jittery. I’m absolutely petrified of what the deafening firecrackers of Chinese New Year Eve would now herald in for me.
Call it superstition, whatever. I’m taking no chances with ebullient heralds and ushers.
To compensate (yes, absurd!) for that horrible start, to preempt the jinx of a replay, I’m doing an early bird now. My Lunar New Year wish is for serenity, and for endurance and patience to prevail in 2009.
I ask for no more than this, for I am steering a mountain this year.
